Buffkin signs to play at Central Methodist

2016 Aug 2

Central Methodist University head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman announced his 2016-17 recruiting class on Friday, July 29. Included in the new recruits to the CMU men's basketball program is Kyle Buffkin from Stallings. Buffkin will begin play with the Eagles, in time for the 2016-17 season.

Buffkin, a 6-10 senior forward from Stallings, North Carolina. Buffkin played for Union High School in South Carolina, while also spending one prep season at Fork Union Military Academy. Following his time in high school, Buffkin spent his freshman and sophomore seasons at NCAA Division I Coastal Carolina University. Buffkin transferred to NCAA Division II USC-Aiken for his junior year.

"This could be our most influential addition this year," said Sherman. "We have had the talent over the past few years to compete for the title, but have not been fortunate to have the overall size to finish. Not only do we have the size with Kyle, but we have added an impressive young man that is talented, intelligent and a very good player. We plan on playing Kyle at both the forward and center positions, and his impact will be felt immediately. This will be Kyle's senior season, having played at both NCAA Division I & II schools. I am excited for Kyle and our program this season with his addition."

"This has been a very successful recruiting year for us, as we had some very important spots to fill," said CMU head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman. "We had three to four starting positions that needed to be addressed and we believe this class has four players that have starting potential. While we do return our leading scorer Ron Lee (18ppg) and our leading rebounder Scott Stegeman (8.8rpg), this was an important recruiting year. We wanted to add more quickness, athleticism, size, experience and players that can score, and this was accomplished. More importantly, I wanted players that could be great teammates and have the ability to do numerous things well to compete for a conference title."
