Burkhart signs to play at Central Methodist

2016 Aug 2

Central Methodist University head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman announced his 2016-17 recruiting class on Friday, July 29. Included in the new recruits to the CMU men's basketball program is Bo Burkhart from Evansville. Burkhart will begin play with the Eagles, in time for the 2016-17 season.

Burkhart, a 5'10" junior guard, joins the Eagle family, following a pair of seasons at Southwestern Illinois Community College. Burkhart hails from Evansville, Indiana, where he attended Evansville Bosse High School. Burkhart averaged 18 points per game and seven assists at a senior at Evansville Bosse High School. Burkhart, just finished his sophomore campaign at Southwestern Illinois Community College, where he averaged 10 points per game and shot 43% from beyond the three-point arc.

"Bo is the ultimate competitor," said Sherman. "He comes from a coaching family, as his father Shane Burkhart is the head coach at Evansville Bosse High School. Bo has the ability to play all the guard positions, as he can score and defend. His knowledge and instincts of the game are exceptional. Bo knows how to get the job done, and will be a fierce team leader this coming season."

"This has been a very successful recruiting year for us, as we had some very important spots to fill," said CMU head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman. "We had three to four starting positions that needed to be addressed and we believe this class has four players that have starting potential. While we do return our leading scorer Ron Lee (18ppg) and our leading rebounder Scott Stegeman (8.8rpg), this was an important recruiting year. We wanted to add more quickness, athleticism, size, experience and players that can score, and this was accomplished. More importantly, I wanted players that could be great teammates and have the ability to do numerous things well to compete for a conference title."
