Glasgow a Charter Member for New CMU Sorority

2016 Apr 18

The growing Greek life system at Central Methodist University has a new addition to the fold with the establishment of a colony of the Delta Xi Nu sorority.

Zoey Glasgow is one of six CMU students to become the charter members of the CMU Pi colony of Delta Xi Nu, a sorority committed to the furtherance of multiculturalism by promoting diversity and cultural awareness.

The addition will bring to 11 the number of social Greek organizations, and Delta Xi Nu is CMU's second national sorority according to Ken Oliver, vice president for institutional growth and student engagement.

"Delta XI Nu is a welcome addition to our CMU Greek family," Oliver said. "Having a national multicultural sorority that is inclusive of all females will assist us in offering new programing to our students that aligns with our mission of our university."

Glasgow is a communication studies major from Huntsville. Alexis Eckhoff is the group's first president. Greg Ray, assistant coach for the CMU women's basketball team, is the group sponsor.

The Delta Xi Nu colony will gain chapter status in the fall and will be full members of the CMU Greek Council as of next August, according to Joy Flanders, CMU director of student success and coordinator of CMU Greek activities. She noted that more than 23 percent of current, on-campus CMU students are affiliated with a Greek social group, up from 12 percent four years ago.

"I'm so excited that the leadership of Delta Xi Nu chose Central Methodist University with whom to partner on this expansion," Flanders said. "Greek Life is vibrant, alive and very positive at CMU.

"It's exhilarating to welcome a new organization to our campus and to the leadership of the CMU Greek Council," she added. "It's truly a good time to be Greek at Central Methodist."

Delta Xi Nu was founded in 1997 on the campus of Texas A&M University and today boasts 19 chapters and colonies in five states.

"Very excited to be working with such strong, inspirational women," added Delta Xi Nu's National Director of Expansions Cristina Chavers. "We are proud to call them our sisters."
