Hoffman Involved with Production of Noises Off at CMU

2015 Oct 2

Jacquelyn Hoffman, a nursing major at Central Methodist University, will be taking part in the Little Theatre production of "Noises Off" by Michael Frayn.

Hoffman is part of costume crew.

"Noises Off" uses the concept of a play within a play. A group of actors is muddling through the attempt to put on a play, Nothing On; however, it is the actors themselves who provide most of the humor "backstage."

A trailer for the show can be found on CMU's YouTube channel.

The play will be performed in Central's Little Theatre on Thursday-Saturday nights, Oct. 8, 9, and 10 at 7:30 p.m.; and a Sunday matinee at 1:30 p.m. on Oct.11. The play is open to all. Tickets are $8 for adults and $2 for students. CMU faculty and staff may get in for $5.

"Noises Off" is a farce, developed by Frayn when he realized that what was going on behind the curtain in a play was actually funnier than what was being performed in front of the curtain. The entire play uses nine players as the actors and the players in their inept performance. Timing and slapstick will make repeated visits throughout the play/s.

Each of three acts in "Noises Off" shows the performance of Act I of the inside play, "Nothing On," all at different times. "Noises Off" is a challenging play to perform; however, Kelty has a mixture of students in varying classes and dramatic backgrounds who are ready to succeed.
