Dateline: 1926; Orange, New Jersey. Dr. Marie Curie has introduced the world to radium, the new wonder element used in everything from medicine to luminous dials. But suddenly, dialpainters begin to fall inexplicably ill. Grace Fryer, one painter, must battle the U.S. Radium Corporation as well as the elements of time and radium before it's too late.

The Theatre Department at Central Methodist University presents Radium Girls by D.W. Gregory, a play inspired by this true story.

The comedy drama is under the direction of Mark Kelty, CMU associate professor of theatre, with Jackie Hoffman (senior, Maywood, Ill.) as assistant director.

Radium Girls is about Grace Fryer, Kathryn Schaub, and Irene Rudolph, three women who work in a dialpainting factory during World War I. Their job is to paint the numbers on clock faces with luminous paint.

Soon, the girls develop a crippling, potentially fatal illness. Realizing that her job is a danger to her health, Grace quits working at the factory, but a series of repercussions follow closely behind.

Grace takes on her former employer, Arthur Roeder, in one of the biggest industrial lawsuits; all the while searching for what's owed to her before time runs out.

Members of the cast are Katie Roberts (sophomore, Wildwood); Kelson Rosbach (senior, Columbia); Breilly Roy (freshman, Trenton); Kelsey Forqueran (senior, Malta Bend); Addison McGuire (sophomore, Higbee);

Terri Banderet (freshman, Saint Louis); Lyndsey Phillips (sophomore, Bloomsdale); Emma Wyble (freshman, Columbia); Jon Connor (junior, Gravois Mills); Clinton Campbell (freshman, Prairie Home); Aaron Johnson (sophomore, Richmond); and Austin Giorgianni (freshman, Ava).
