Joshua Kirby recognized by CMU for Excellence in Fine and Performing Arts

2011 Sep 27

Central Methodist University's Swinney Conservatory of Music and The Little Theatre presented their highest student honors Friday, Sept. 23, in the annual Fine Arts Celebration on the Fayette campus.

Honored were both current student leaders in music and theatrical arts, and recent graduates, based on the work they did in the 2010-11 school year.

Joshua A. Kirby, son of Martin Kirby from Armstrong, MO was honored as the President Alpha Psi Omega Theater Student Honor Society and Best Actor in Lead Role.

Forty-four undergraduate students were honored in areas of vocal and instrumental music, theatrical plays and musical productions. Awards were presented by Dr. Barb Hamel, dean of the Swinney Conservatory of Music at CMU.

The awards were preceded by a banquet and entertainment by alumni Ted and Ruth Cheffey Spayde of Fayette, both CMU Class of 1970, and Aaron and Carolyn Shepard Money of Blue Springs, Mo., both Class of 2001.

Founded in 1854, Central Methodist programs range from undergraduate and graduate studies to high-school dual credit offerings.
