Kaitlyn Gebhardt Receives National Scholarship

2016 Jul 27

Kaitlyn Gebhardt from Hallsville has been named as a recipient of the national Alpha Lambda Delta Trow Scholarship. Gebhardt will be a junior at Central Methodist University in Fayette this fall.

The announcement was made by Dr. Susan Huffman, National President of Alpha Lambda Delta national honor society. Gebhardt was awarded a $1,000 scholarship based on her continuing high grade point average, academic record, participation in Alpha Lambda Delta activities, campus and community service activities, and a personal statement.

Alpha Lambda Delta recognizes students' academic success during their first year at a college or university. Founded in 1924, the society is present on 275 campuses nationwide and maintains more than a million lifetime members.

Its mission is to "encourage superior academic achievement, promote intelligent living and a continued high standard of learning, and assist students in recognizing and developing meaningful goals for their unique roles in society."

The Jo Anne J. Trow Scholarship was started in 1988 to honor past National President of Alpha Lambda Delta Jo Anne J. Trow, former vice president for student services at Oregon State University. It currently offers 36 awards to students.

Gebhardt, an instrumental music education major at CMU, plays flute and piccolo in the CMU Marching Band, the touring CMU Concert Band, and the University Band. She is also active in Sigma Alpha Iota, a national honorary women's music fraternity, and a member of the CMU Conservatory Singers.

Dr. Richard Bradley, professor of history, is the faculty advisor of the CMU chapter of Alpha Lambda Delta.

Since its founding in 1854, CMU has evolved into a university that confers master's, bachelor's and associate's degrees through programming on its main campus in Fayette, Mo., and through extension sites and online.
