Litton honored at CMU Science, Mathematics, and Computer Science Awards

2016 Apr 21

The Division of Science, Mathematics and Computer Science at Central Methodist University in Fayette, honored its most accomplished students at an awards banquet held on the Fayette campus on April 18.

Ashley Litton, a Senior chemistry major from Lees Summit, was awarded the Dr. Niels C. Nielsen Outstanding Chemistry Award. It is given by Dr. Nielsen's relatives for the year's overall best chemistry student. Litton was also awarded the Dr. Larry J. Peery Award for Excellence in Physics. This award is named for Dr. Peery who taught at Central 1967-2013 and is awarded to the student with the highest overall average for two semesters of calculus-based physics.

Some of the awards are sponsored by groups or individuals who have had significance to the division through the last century while others are sponsored by campus honors groups and the faculty. Many of the awards carry a monetary stipend or scholarship; others have plaques which will have winners' names added to them.
