Miller To Perform In The Sound of Central Marching Eagle Band

2017 Aug 28

Central Methodist University student Josh Miller, from Waynesville, Mo., will perform with The Sound of Central Marching Eagle Band during the 2017-18 academic year.

Miller, a senior, is a music education major at CMU.

As in other years, the marching band has a full season of activities planned. Beginning with the first home football game (Saturday, Aug. 26), the band is scheduled to perform for home games on Saturdays Sept. 9 (game time 1 p.m.), Sept. 30 (which is Family Day, game time 11 a.m.), Oct. 14 (Homecoming, with the game at 1 p.m.), Nov. 4 (game time 1 p.m.), and Nov. 11 (Senior Day, game time noon).

The band is made up of 71 students this year, considerably larger than last year's band. It is conducted by (Roy) Skip Vandelicht, a CMU alumnus from 1977, who took over the band fulltime in 2008 after he retired from more than 30 years of teaching music in the Fayette School District. He is currently associate professor of music and director of bands at CMU.

In addition to half-time performances, the CMU band performs at a variety of pep rallies and other special events, in the Homecoming Parade and, along with the full CMU Swinney Conservatory of Music, runs the Oct. 7 CMU Band Day.

After the marching season is over, most of the students remain with the band as part of the Concert Band, which gives its first performance of the year on Sunday, Dec. 10 at 4 p.m.
