Ng Attends District Symposium/Annual Meeting

2017 Mar 29

Central Methodist University student Allyson Ng, from Kansas City, Mo., recently traveled to La Vista, Neb. with nine other students for the Mid America Athletic Trainers' Association (MAATA) District Symposium/Annual Meeting, which was held March 16-18. Ng is a senior currently pursuing a Bachelor of Science in Athletic Training degree at CMU.

Students participated in lectures, labs, and poster presentations to help build professional relationships with other certified athletic trainers and universities.

Three students from CMU's Athletic Training Student Quiz Bowl team represented Missouri in a seven-state quiz bowl competition, finishing in the top four of their round until final jeopardy when they were eliminated, according to Jill Pratte, athletic training clinical education coordinator and associate professor at CMU.

To reach this level, the team previously competed against Culver-Stockton College, Lindenwood University, Missouri Valley College, the University of Central Missouri, the University of Missouri, Truman State University, St. Louis University, Missouri State University, and Evangel University.

Of these schools, two qualified to advance and represent Missouri - CMU and Truman State.

"I'm very proud of their efforts - to qualify as one of the top two teams coming out of the state of Missouri is extremely good," Pratte said. "Even though we are a small school, our accredited curriculum Athletic Training Program is very strong, and has produced many excellent certified athletic trainers through the years."

This year marks the second in a row that CMU has finished as one of the top two teams in the state.

Students representing CMU's Athletic Training Quiz Bowl team were Megan Bremer, Alex Silcott, and Kelsey Vineyard. Other students who attended were Reece Carmichael, Cassidy Evans, Shannon Feurt, Allyson Ng, Abbie Moore, Crystin Wilson, and Mariah Zeiss.
