Shively Participates in CMU Band Camp

2014 Jul 14

Samantha Shively from Hunnewell participated in Band Camp 2014 at Central Methodist University. The annual camp drew a record 90 campers from across Missouri and from Illinois, according to CMU Prof. Skip Vandelicht, camp director.

The participating musicians, all of them entering either high school or junior high this coming academic year, spent four days (July 8-11) at the university learning from experts, playing and rehearsing, and listening to music by some of Missouri's finest ensembles, Vandelicht said.

Many of the camp faculty teach at CMU. This year's faculty included Larry Bennett, Paul Copenhaver, Chris Farris, Donald Heaton, Steve Litwiller, Jackie Lordo, Andrew Marjamaa, Lori Pyatt, Bridgett Randolph, Clarence Smith, Dr. Dori Waggoner, Kelsey Whitacre, and Vandelicht. Fourteen current CMU music students and recent graduates served as camp counselors.

"We work hard to make the camp as educational and fun as possible," Vandelicht said. "They learn new things about their instrument, get an opportunity to take lessons with an expert on that instrument, and play in both large and small ensembles."
