Williams signs to play at Central Methodist

2016 Aug 2

Central Methodist University head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman announced his 2016-17 recruiting class on Friday, July 29. Included in the new recruits to the CMU men's basketball program is Kellieon Williams from Greenville. Williams will begin play with the Eagles, in time for the 2016-17 season.

Williams, a 6'7" forward, transfers to CMU from Mineral Area College. Williams finished his sophomore season by appearing in 31 games, while scoring 5.7 points per game, 2.8 rebounds per game, and 0.4 assists per game. The forward also finished with 11 blocks. In high school, Williams averaged 15 points per game, six rebounds per game, and shot 46% from beyond the three-point arc.

"Kellieon was our first player to sign and one we feel that he will be able to fill numerous roles in our program," said Sherman. "He has tremendous length and has a high motor and competitive spirit. He has played on many fine programs from Waynesville High School, MOKAN AAU, along with Coffeyville Community College and Mineral Area Community College. He can play both the guard and forward positions, and is the ultimate team player. I can't wait to get Kellieon in an Eagles jersey."

"This has been a very successful recruiting year for us, as we had some very important spots to fill," said CMU head men's basketball coach Jeff Sherman. "We had three to four starting positions that needed to be addressed and we believe this class has four players that have starting potential. While we do return our leading scorer Ron Lee (18ppg) and our leading rebounder Scott Stegeman (8.8rpg), this was an important recruiting year. We wanted to add more quickness, athleticism, size, experience and players that can score, and this was accomplished. More importantly, I wanted players that could be great teammates and have the ability to do numerous things well to compete for a conference title."
