Wyble Attended the American College Theatre Festival

2016 Feb 29

Emma Wyble participated in the American College Theatre Festival in Minneapolis on January 17-23.

Participation in this event included workshops, scholarship auditions, professional theatre auditions, and Interactive Theatre.

The InterActors have been active at CMU, local high schools, and several conferences during the past two years. The project was created as a service-oriented class devoted to the interactive techniques developed by Augusto Boal known as Theatre of the Oppressed.

The focus on the class and the project has been on promoting healthy relationships. Students train in the theatre techniques and in the subject matter via workshops presented by True North of Columbia and our own faculty: Jackie Anson and Beth Gold. Once trained, the students created a script depicting an unhealthy relationship between two high school students.

After rehearsing the script and the techniques, our students have performed the vignette along with interactive exercises with high school and college audiences on a regular basis. The past two years, they presented to all of the CMU101 classes and at 15+ high schools in the mid-Missouri region.

These students have led 6 workshops demonstrating and discussing our techniques and project at the Speech and Theatre Association of Missouri, Missouri Thespians Society, and the American College Theatre Festival.
